Up and down staircases labeled in the library. In and out doors for buildings. The smell of Bioesque in every classroom. Disposable plasticware at every meal. Constant humidity under my mask... I have to daily remember to extend grace toward others, and harder yet for me, to extend grace to myself.
When I was seven, we finished the basement to our home and my twin and I chose our paint colors for our own rooms. I chose pink for the walls and yellow for the trim. It was awesome!! ...for a while.
But when things started to reopen and the voices of injustice grew louder, I filled my time with trying to fill my time. It is hard to just be the person sitting and listening, so I tried to do avoid that...
The badge of busyness blinds me from where I'm lacking in self-care, relationships, or simply breathing. It is exhilarating.
Amidst organic sunscreens and creek mud, 50+ 5&6 year olds (over several weeks) invited me into their imaginations, frustrations, and friendships.
It's okay to keep things you love and that spark joy! I'm not actually downsizing for necessity, I'm simplifying my space. I love having full shelves of books. I simply needed to make sure the shelves were full of books that I enjoy and would like to read (again).

At the end of most days, my mind was full, my heart filled with good conversations, and my knees sore. I went to sleep simply to get up and do it all over again. When I really think about it though, I am much stronger because of it.
